By reading and discussing diverse stories, Books Unbound strives to create an environment in which all children can imagine themselves as characters in books. We hope this will empower incarcerated children to broaden how they imagine their own futures, and encourage them to expand their narratives of themselves.
To prepare incarcerated youth to successfully re-enter society by helping them improve their literacy and develop empathetic, social, and critical thinking skills.
Who We Serve
Books Unbound currently serves incarcerated youth in the South Carolina Lowcountry. Each book club session has a maximum of five participants.
How It Works
The founder meets two to three times per month with each book club group. One book is discussed each month.
