Books Unbound is a volunteer literacy program for incarcerated teens in South Carolina led by Emilie J. Hancock. Inspired by two years of volunteering as a book club facilitator for incarcerated youth in Charlotte, North Carolina, she returned to her home in the Lowcountry determined to start her own local initiative. At the University of South Carolina, she earned a B.A. in Anthropology and a B.A. in English with a concentration in secondary education. Emilie works as a Reference Assistant V at Charleston County Public Library. She has also been the Content and Media Editor at BiblioLabs in Charleston, where she contributed articles that advocate for reading and supporting local writers for publications including No Shelf Required and the Romance Writers of America‘s Romance Writers Report. Additionally, she volunteers for Librivox , and has volunteered as a Guardian ad Litem. She lives with her husband and their two dogs, Raoul and Boris.
